Rare Antique 19th C. Carved Corps Of Commissionaires Presentation Brass Handled Serving Tray.
The tray features a beautiful deep and rich patina, an ornate carved border floral decoration with carved wood gallery edges and splayed solid brass handles.
circa 1870
Corps of Commissionaires was created in 1859, made up of servicemen from both the British Navy & Army. Their purpose was to provide security for VIP's etc
The insignia of the Corps is represented by the fouled anchor and sword symbol with the top crest of the winged lion of St Mark above, representing the specific motto of the Corps "Virtute et Industria".
