About Us
The name The Wonder Room is inspired by the historic “cabinets of curiosities” — spaces filled with rare, unusual, and fascinating objects collected from across the world. These rooms were designed to spark curiosity and tell stories, bringing together pieces of history, craftsmanship, and discovery under one roof. That same spirit sits at the heart of everything we do today.
Since 2009, we have been sourcing and selling antique and vintage pieces, travelling across the country in search of items with character, history, and individuality. From hidden corners of local markets to long-established antique centres, every piece is carefully selected for its uniqueness and the story it carries.
Over the years, we’ve had the privilege of supplying collectors, interior designers, and television and film prop specialists, each looking for something distinctive that cannot be replicated.
The Wonder Room represents the next chapter of that journey — a curated space where those years of experience come together in a collection of objects chosen not just for their age, but for their presence. Each item is individually sourced and handled with care, with attention paid to its condition, authenticity, and the quiet details that make it special.
One discovery that captures the essence of what we do came during a visit to a ramshackled antique shop in Hampshire. The shop itself was housed in an early 19th-century building, constructed using timbers from a United States naval frigate captured during 1812 — a setting already steeped in history. Among its contents, we uncovered an extraordinary piece: a finely carved and pierced coconut shell “bugbear,” created by a 19th-century prisoner held at the San Juan de Ulúa fortress in Mexico. Intricately detailed with contemporary scenes and inscriptions, it was a fragile and entirely unique survivor of its time.
Moments like these are what define The Wonder Room — the thrill of discovery, the preservation of history, and the opportunity to connect remarkable objects with people who truly appreciate them. It was especially meaningful to see this piece return to its home continent, where it found a new home with a collector in Texas.
At its core, The Wonder Room is about more than objects. It is about stories, craftsmanship, and the enduring appeal of things made, used, treasured and enjoyed across generations.
