A beautiful 19th-century Salviati & C. Murano glass plate, dating to approximately 1870–1890.
The plate is finely constructed using the Zanfirico (vetro a retorti) / latticino filigrana technique, with numerous delicate white twisted canes radiating from the pronounced raised central cone.
Fine copper aventurine threads are incorporated alongside the white filigrana, producing a wonderful shimmering gold effect throughout the design. The result is an exceptionally intricate and highly decorative piece of Venetian glass.
The underside retains the rough pontil and small areas of glassmaking residue/slag material characteristic of these early hand-blown examples.
Diameter: 18.2cm
Weight: 189g
Condition: Perfect condition — no chips, cracks, restoration or other damage.
A particularly fine example of the sophisticated revival of historic Venetian filigrana and aventurine techniques associated with the Salviati glassworks in the later 19th century. Comparable Salviati Zanfirico and aventurine plates are documented at approximately this exact size and dated to c.1870–1890.
