A substantial antique English glass rummer, distinguished by its softly rounded U-shaped bowl, pronounced baluster stem and exceptionally broad, heavy foot. The glass displays a beautiful pinkish-amethyst tint throughout, becoming particularly pronounced in the thicker sections of the bowl, stem and foot.
The generously proportioned bowl has near-vertical sides that curve into a deep, rounded base, giving the vessel a distinctive silhouette. The robust stem features a waisted profile with prominent mereses at the bowl and foot junctions. The broad circular foot has a smoothed pontil area beneath, consistent with traditional hand-blown glassmaking.
The glass has a pleasingly substantial feel, weighing 619g, with a brim capacity of approximately 578ml. Circular striations and subtle irregularities in the glass are characteristic of its hand-formed construction. The foot shows consistent friction wear, with further signs of age and use visible internally.
A characterful and unusually substantial example of historical drinking glassware, combining an elegant profile with a distinctive amethyst hue. A fine addition to a collection of antique English glass, rummers or traditional barware.
