Antique 18th Century Hand-Hammered European Cauldron Vessel.

Measuring 20.6 cm tall, this striking heavy-gauge piece features a beautifully shaped bulbous body, a wide flared collar, and two stout wrought iron handles secured with heavy period-correct rivets.

This is not a reproduction; it is a true survivor of the Georgian era, boasting an incredible dark, untouched patina and immense rustic character.

Historic Artisan Repair History: What makes this specific piece a standout find for serious collectors is its fascinating, visible history. On one side of the body, there are three distinct, vertically aligned square metal patches. These are classic, historic flush-set brazed repairs carried out by a period coppersmith or whitesmith to mend pinholes from decades of open-hearth use.

During the 1700s, bronze and copper were highly valuable commodities. Rather than throwing a worn vessel away, families relied on local craftsmen to patch and extend the life of their essential kitchen tools. These patches are deeply oxidized and perfectly blended into the overall dark brown patina, proving they are centuries old.

Far from being a flaw, this historic mend serves as a beautiful badge of authenticity and tells a vivid story of the pot's long, functional life.

The pot is structurally sound, heavy for its size, and holds its shape perfectly. The exterior displays a prominent, dimpled texture from the original hand-hammering process. It features a rich, uncleaned dark patina with authentic surface wear, minor pitting, and light oxidation consistent with being used over an open flame for generations. The iron handles are firmly attached and stable.
